FAQ

Tapestries and Textiles

What type of textile is used for the tapestries?

Each tapestry is woven in Jacquard cotton. This textile combines durability, fine detail, and visual richness, faithfully reproducing the nuances of the original artwork.

How are the tapestries made?

Each tapestry is the result of a precise and collaborative process, combining traditional textile craftsmanship with contemporary technology.

Starting from one of my original watercolor drawings, the artwork is interpreted and translated thread by thread on a Jacquard loom. Many hours of preparation and weaving are required to create each piece, ensuring a meticulous result that remains faithful to the original artistic intention. Approximately 24 km (15 miles) of cotton thread are required to produce each tapestry.

How are the colors created in the weaving process?

The colors in Jacquard weaving are not printed but constructed.

Each shade is created by combining threads of different colors (red, blue, green, yellow, black, and white). Their interlacing produces subtle, rich variations, giving the tapestry a vibrant and textured appearance.

Are the tapestries environmentally responsible?

Yes. The production process prioritizes environmentally responsible methods.

The tapestries are made from 100% cotton, including a significant proportion of recycled cotton. Textile waste generated during production is recovered or reintegrated into the manufacturing process to help reduce its environmental impact.

What is Jacquard weaving?

Jacquard weaving is an innovative textile technique that revolutionized the history of weaving.

It is based on a programmable system that controls each individual thread. Originally, the process relied on punched cards to guide the pattern, making it one of the earliest forms of programmable technology. Today, this technique makes it possible to translate complex images into woven textiles, thread by thread, with exceptional precision and remarkable visual richness.

What makes the weaving so distinctive?

Each tapestry is created using a double-layer Jacquard weave, a construction made up of two superimposed layers of fabric. This technique provides greater depth, structure, and precision to the design.

Unlike a print, the image is built directly into the textile through the interlacing of cotton threads. The reverse is as carefully finished as the front and reveals an alternative interpretation of the artwork, highlighting the richness of the weaving.

Is each tapestry unique?

Yes. Every tapestry is a completely unique textile artwork. Each original watercolor drawing exists as a single work and gives rise to one, and only one, tapestry, with no reproductions, ensuring an exclusive piece that remains faithful to the original artistic intention.

Do the tapestries come with a certificate of authenticity?

Yes. A certificate of authenticity is attached to the back of each artwork and stapled to the stretcher frame. It includes the artwork's title, the artist's name (Edgar LE GOVIC), the technique (Contemporary Jacquard Weaving), the materials, dimensions, year of creation, and a unique certificate number (LG-__________). It also confirms that the artwork is a unique piece (1/1). Signed by the artist, the certificate guarantees the authenticity and unique nature of the artwork.

How should I care for a tapestry?

The tapestries are intended for indoor use. To preserve their quality, it is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and excessively humid environments. Regular dusting with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner on a low suction setting is sufficient for routine care.
