Tartan portrait, a multiplied and suspended gaze. 🪶
A contemporary work, Portrait Tartan is inspired by an early 20th-century Breton archive postcard depicting a young man from Pontivy in traditional dress.
The face, duplicated and slightly offset, creates a disturbing sense of repetition. Through this interplay of symmetry and fragmentation, the identity seems to split in two, oscillating between presence and illusion. The clothing pattern and the lines of the suit reinforce this visual rhythm, transforming the portrait into an almost hypnotic composition. What was a simple documentary record becomes an exploration of sight and perception.
